Author spotlight questionnaire

Q1. What’s your author name, and is this a pen name?

My author name is H.A. Robinson, and yes, it is a penname.

Q2. Which demographic are your books aimed at?

I write in different genres. Several of my books are aimed at an adult audience, though they are suitable for more mature young readers. I also write Young Adult books, which have been well received by teenage readers along with adults.

Q3. What genre(s) do you write?

Romance, romance, romance!

Q4. What made you start writing?

I honestly don’t know! I can’t remember a time when I didn’t’ enjoy making up stories. I can remember writing a story in year two of primary school called The Ant and the Bee Make Friends and my teacher liking it so much she made it into a cute little book. I still have it somewhere. I guess everybody starts somewhere!

Q5. How long ago did you publish your first book?

My first book was published in July 2015, which feels like a lifetime ago now.

Q6. What is the title of the first book you published, and how did you come up with the story?

My first book was Max Colton’s Road to Wonderland, which was part of a series where each book was written by a different author. Each book was about a different character in a group of friends.

Q7. Name one of your favourite characters, from which book, and why are they your favourite?

Probably my favourite character of the ones I’ve created is Tom from The Pebble Jar. He was a character who was originally intended to be a very small role in the book, but as I wrote, he took on a life of his own, and now I’m partway through writing him his own story. He’s just a genuinely nice guy who sees the best in everybody, no matter how messed up they might be. He’s a loyal and decent friend and the kind of person everybody needs in their life.

Q8. If you could recommend one of your books to a new reader, which one would you choose and why?

I would probably recommend The Pebble Jar. It’s by far my most popular book and the one I am the most proud of. It took a huge chunk of my heart and soul to spill that story onto the page, and there is so much of me in there that it’s super special to me.

Q9. Tell us about your newest release or WIP.

My last release was To Where You Are, the first book in a brand new series co-authored with KA Hobbs. It came out in March and we are both intensely proud of it. It was a story we came together to write at a difficult time for both of us, and the story and the world we created saw us through some really difficult days.

Q10. Which author do you admire, and why?

Oh gosh, there are so so many! I love so many authors for different reasons. My two absolute favourite indie authors of all time are Emma Scott and JM Darhower. Sempre was one of the first indie books I ever read, and it was a huge inspiration for me to follow my dreams and put pen to paper myself.

Emma Scott not only writes amazing books filled with heart and spirit, but she also happens to be one of the finest human beings I’ve ever had the fortune to meet and call a friend. Her beautiful soul shines through in every one of her amazing stories, and her words have seen me through some seriously tough times. I’ll never ever forget that. Words have so much power—to hurt and to heal—and I admire anybody who uses their talent to weave words that help people.

Author spotlight questionnaire

Q1. What’s your author name, and is this a pen name?

Harper L. Jameson. It’s a pen name, I felt my real name was too plain for romance, but I plan to use it to write horror as it’s fairly ambiguous.

Q2. Which demographic are your books aimed at?

My books are for anyone who reads paranormal romance, though my romance scenes are a bit.. detailed and are probably best reserved for 18 and up.

Q3. What genre(s) do you write?

Paranormal romance, soon to add contemporary romance and horror.

Q4. What made you start writing?

Early onset insomnia and an overactive imagination. I read a lot when I couldn’t sleep, and it seemed the natural progression to begin to write my own books.

Q5. How long ago did you publish your first book?

Almost exactly 2 years.

Q6. What is the title of the first book you published, and how did you come up with the story?

The Spirit is my first book, and it was actually intended only to be a character study on what became my second book. The characters simply demanded their own story.

Q7. Name one of your favourite characters, from which book, and why are they your favourite?

Tank Ansley, hands down. He’ll get his own book in the series (The Mountain) and I’m currently writing it because I love him so much. He’s just a normal, god-fearing, small town deputy thrown into some very un-normal circumstances and trying to rectify what he was taught with what he now knows. He does it as any self respecting hillbilly would. With denial and bourbon.

Q8. If you could recommend one of your books to a new reader, which one would you choose and why?

It would be The Spirit. I was so honoured when the Fantasy, Futurist and Paranormal Chapter of Romance Writers of America awarded me for the best erotic PNR of 2017. I’m proud of the story and it will give readers a taste of the world I created with The Tribe, even though it’s the only one of the books set in the past (1836).

Q9. Tell us about your newest release or WIP.

I’m working on books 3 and 4 of The Tribe novels right now. I tend to write more than one story at a time. Book 3 follows Misignwa’s twin, Matchetehew and book 4 is all about Tank.

Q10. Which author do you admire, and why?

I admire any author who can create their own world and is brave enough to share it with the public.

Q1. What’s your author name, and is this a pen name?

M. J. Rutter

Q2. Which demographic are your books aimed at?

Well, I write a little YA, so teens and young adults for those books, but mostly romance, so anyone who loves romance/suspense books.

Q3. What genre(s) do you write?

Romance, Paranormal, YA, Fantasy, Gangster, Mystery and Thrillers.

Q4. What made you start writing?

I loved the book The Outsiders when I was sixteen, although I had always made stories up to tell my brothers, there was something about this story that made me put pen to paper. I didn’t take the plunge to publish until my 40^th birthday year though.

Q5. How long ago did you publish your first book?

I can tell you the exact date, July 3^rd 2012. I hit publish on my first self-published book but had also sent a book to a publisher’s in the States, they loved it and offered me a contract on the 6^th July, busy week. 

Q6. What is the title of the first book you published, and how did you come up with the story?

I, Immortal. It came to me as a dream, literally, a girl tied to a tree in some woods at night. She was surrounded by wolves who wouldn’t touch her, and she didn’t know why. I developed it from that.

Q7. Name one of your favourite characters, from which book, and why are they your favourite?

I’d have to say Jez – Jeremy Buxton from the Season Series. He is a tryer, he tried to woo the love of his life in Summer Rain and no matter what he did, he always got it wrong.  When he finally got her, he never stopped trying. I wrote four books with him and currently working on a fifth – Oops, that was meant to be a secret!!!

Q8. If you could recommend one of your books to a new reader, which one would you choose and why?

Just one?? Not easy - I would have to say Summer Rain, the first Season book. It’s set around Dorset, where I live, and I try to include its beauty as well as these damaged souls meeting by chance and developing their relationship.

Q9. Tell us about your newest release or WIP.

I have the fourth book in the Lunar Ryce, Sheol Legacies Series coming out on 30^th June 2018. It’s a YA Fantasy series. Lunar Ryce is a soul collector, she has been on one heck of a journey, fighting for love, for those she cares about and now for her freedom. I am pretty excited and plan to release the finally in December.

Q10. Which author do you admire, and why?

There are so many to choose from, but at a push, my heart will always belong to Anne Rice, losing her daughter must have been one of the most difficult things she could ever endure. Writing Interview With The Vampire shows how she dealt with her loss by making a little girl immortal, it meant that she’d never have to say goodbye. Not a natural good-bye anyway. It just touched me and stayed with me. I have read so many books recently, I have met so many incredible authors and each have their own story to tell. I admire them all, for putting up with all that happens in the publishing world, for taking the flack, the scammers, the pirates, for not having someone to stick up for them, for all of that together with low sales, fighting for a ranking and pushing to get heard through social media restrictions, they are all amazing. Sorry, for rambling on, but the Indie world is pretty cut-throat right now and that is scary. I still love it though.
